Food Security Council meeting in progress on Monday in Abuja
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with the Food Security Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The council during the meeting promised to step up operations in ensuring a secure environment, where efforts by states towards food security in Nigeria will yield the desired results.
In an achieving, this Vice Chairman of the Council and Governor of Kebbi State said that the council meetings will hold as often as possible which will also help deepen the gains of the last two and half years by providing more opportunities for farmers.
The President on March 16, 2018, approved the constitution of membership for the National Food Security Council, which involves the Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Water Resources, Information and Culture, as well as Industry, Trade and Investment.
Also National Security Adviser, Chief of Staff, Governors of Lagos, Kebbi, Ebonyi, Delta, and Plateau states.
The council is aimed at developing sustainable solutions to the farmers-herdsmen clashes, as well as climate change and desertification and their impact on farmland.
It will also address the issues of grazing areas and lakes, rivers and other water bodies; oil spillage and its impact on Niger Delta fishing communities; piracy and banditry; agricultural research institutions and extension services and the problem of smuggling.
The Presidency disclosed that the Council would also take interest in regional and global policies and trends that bear implications for food security in Nigeria. (Channels TV)
