CNN programme announces Pele’s death . . . then discovers it goofed

Brazil football legend Pele is “alive and very well”, despite a US television show announcing his death.

CNN’s New Day shocked fans by reporting the three-time World Cup winner had died.

The morning show’s official Twitter account posted: “#BREAKING: Brazilian former soccer player Pele dies at 74.”

They also posted a black and white photo of Pele, who is actually 73 and considered by many to be the greatest footballer ever.

However, realising their error, New Day’s account later corrected themselves.

They added: “#Pele representative tells CNN he is alive and very well.”

“We deleted an earlier and erroneous tweet on this topic. We regret the error and thank our followers for the feedback.”
