The long-time girlfriend of The Rolling Stones legend Sir Mick Jagger has been found dead in her apartment today.
The body of L’Wren Scott was found in her New York flat and it is thought the world famous fashion designer committed suicide.
The 49-year-old American fashion designer’s body was discovered by a personal assistant just after 10am.
She is said to have texted the assistant to come to the apartment at Eleventh Avenue in Manhattan at around 8.30am.
Police said there was no suicide note and the 6ft 3ins beauty had no history of depression.
But it emerged last night that financial pressures may have been a factor, with company records showing her business was more than £3.5 million ($6 million) in debt.
Friends close to the star told the Daily Express she had been experiencing personal difficulties lately and her business was struggling.
Her latest business accounts, filed in the UK in October 2013, showed the huge deficit for LS Fashion LTD.
A spokesman for Sir Mick said the singer was “completely shocked and devastated” following the death of his girlfriend. As a result, the Rolling Stones had to cancel a playing tour of Australia.
Ms Scott and Sir Mick have been dating since 2001 following his split from ex-wife Jerry Hall.
Ms Scott often spoke about wanting to be recognised for her own talents and hated being referred to as just Sir Mick’s girlfriend.
She previously said: “I’m a fashion designer. I don’t want to be defined as someone’s girlfriend.”
No suicide note was found at the scene and it is believed that US police do not suspect foul play.
A spokeswoman for New York City Police Department said: “A 49-year-old female was found this morning at 10.05am at 200 11th Avenue. She was unconscious.
“She was pronounced dead on arrival by the emergency medical services. The investigation is ongoing. We are awaiting medical examiners to determine the cause of death.”
