Kaduna Relaxes Curfew

The Kaduna State Government this afternoon announced the relaxing of the curfew in the state but with a staggered schedule. While people all over the state under are free to move around today from 12 noon to 4pm, movement tomorrow, July 26, will be free in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi and Chikun from 7am to 4pm.

People in the remaining 19 local government areas are free to move around from 6am to 6pm. The amended curfew was announced via a statement by Reuben Buhari, spokesman of Governor Patrick Yakowa, after a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council.

Court Restrains FG from Renaming UNILAG

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos.

Justice Stephen Adah, ruling in the suits brought against the May 29, 2012 renaming of the institution by the students and alumni of the university asked the litigants to harmonise the suits. The court adjourned further hearing in the case till July 4.

President Goodluck Jonathan had his Democracy Day broadcast on May 29 renamed the university after Bashorun MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12 1993 presidential election, but the move was rejected by UNILAG management, students and parents forum.

Lagos Announces Alternative Routes Ahead of Closure of Third Mainland Bridge

Eko Bridge, Cater Bridge and Apapa Road have been named as some of the alternative routes when the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos when full rehabilitation work commences on the bridge on July 1. The repairs will last for four months. The alternative routes were announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Kayode Opeifa, while speaking on 96.1FM Lagos.
