A cross section of security chiefs at Mondays meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja
Security chiefs, at the end of the meeting held with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, have kept mum.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was also at the meeting.
The Chief of Staff Mallam Abba Kyari, National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), Minister of Defence Brigadier General Mansur Dan Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Interior Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau were present at the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed but the meeting may not be unconnected with the current security challenges in the country, particularly, the continued attacks by suspected herdsmen in parts of the country, especially the north-central states.
At the end of the meeting, the security chiefs and others present at the meeting declined to brief journalists on the subject of the meeting.
President Buhari earlier held a meeting with security chiefs on Friday, January 26 in Abuja. The security chiefs at the meeting briefed the President on activities of their respective agencies.
President Buhari has come under severe criticism over his handling of Nigeria’s security. Many have been killed in the northern region and middle belt region of the country in various attacks as a result of the security challenge. Buhari in reaction to criticisms has refuted the claim of sloppiness in his approach, saying he has since given orders for necessary action to be taken by the security agencies.
The incessant killings following the insecurity challenge confronting the nation have also made the House of Representatives ask President Buhari, to sack and replace the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris.
Others present at the meeting held on Monday include DG DSS Lawan Daura, Director General NIA, Ahmed Rufai, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, Representatives of Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Training and Operation, Major General A. Mohammed, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. (Channels TV)
