Lekki Toll Gate Lagos
The Lagos Elders Council has appealed to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC) to reverse the new rate at the Lekki Toll Gate in the interest of motorists and commuters plying the Epe-Lagos Express Road.
Road users in the Eti-Osa area of the state were held up Thursday in a traffic jam that lasted hours, as residents protested and refused to pay the new fees. The traffic gridlock spread to many parts of Lagos Island.
In a statement by its General Secretary, Chief Sunbo Onitiri, the elder citizens regretted that thousands of residents living along the Lagos-Epe Expressway axis would be saddled with extra financial burden amid a challenging economy.
The Elders stated that by now the concession company should have recovered its investment. Meanwhile, the council has drawn the attention of the Lagos State Government to heavy trucks parked on the Ikoyi-link Bridge. It described the development as posing a risk to residents and the longevity of the bridge. (The Guardian)
