In an effort to curtail the escalating road traffic accidents especially during the festive periods, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Red Cross Society and other critical stakeholders in disaster management on Thursday flagged off the 2017 Operation Eagle in the state.
NEMA traditionally has been coordinating resources towards responding to road accidents vulnerability especially at this period of December rush hour in which people travel for the Yuletide celebrations which makes the highways busy.
Responding to the press at the flag-off ceremony, Head Sokoto operations, Mallam Suleiman Muhammad, said: “Major Highways across Zamfara-Sokoto-Kebbi states has been earmark for the exercise between the December and January.
“Our officers will be in strategic places on these roads to monitor and ensure reckless driving; we also indulged drivers to be moderate on their speed limit and to avoid any intoxicant behavior. Passengers should also be wary of the driving ability of the person who takes control of the vehicle they boarded.”
The agency skilled personnel with knowledge on modern rescue equipments and techniques, first responder’s responsibilities and skills, car extrication, search and rescue operation procedures, incidence management, practical on extrication as a mission and first aid it’s a major boost during the exercise.
