Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has described the church as one of the pillars in ensuring the nation’s unity, charging it to continue in its prayers for the indivisibility of Nigeria.
Speaking on Sunday in Warri at the 2017 Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Practical Grace of God Mission, Okowa stated that the church could change the fortune of the nation through prayers and supplication to God, stressing that the church remained one of the pillars in ensuring peace and unity of the country.
He noted that God’s word works wonders as has been proven severally in his life, stating: “Whenever you are in a very difficult position and you have to make a choice, make sure you listen to God. I have always listened to God and He has always guided my actions. We were able to stabilise the economy of the state with the help of God. His presence is in the state because the church is praying. If not for the church, Delta State won’t be what it is today. If not for the church, probably the country would have been dismembered. And the church still needs to pray more to take this nation and the state to greater heights,” he added.
"The church has a lot to do in this onerous task. We must turn things around and rebuild the foundation of our country whose maker and builder is the Lord. We may plan by providing necessary security in the Army, Police and others. But the true security and peace comes genuinely from the Lord,” the Governor said.
Guest minister, Pastor Godsday Orubebe, in a sermon titled “Four Pillars of the Word of God”, called on Christians to serve God diligently and wholeheartedly, adding that every word written in the Bible was meant to address every situation in life.
Host Pastor, Apostle Bendream Umukoro described Okowa as a God-fearing man whose leadership of the state was ordained by God.
