Corps Marshall, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi
The Corps Marshall of Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has said 25 officials of the commission were sacked Thursday night for alleged official misconducts, saying more are still going.
He warned motorists across the country to stop bribing officials in the uniform of the commission, saying the commission pays them promptly.
The commission boss said he has directed all his men to impound vehicles they perceived not to be road-worthy on highways.
Boboye who spoke at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) as part of the union’s 2017 press week said all his officials have received their November salaries, adding that it is a crime for them to take from the poor public.
The FRSC boss noted that the fines of most of the offenses are cheaper than the bribe given to the men in uniform.
He however seeks the support of the media and general public to take photograph of any of his men who engage in any misconduct.
According to him, the commission has zero tolerance for corruption and any of its officials who engages in such act will be shown the way out of the service of the commission.
“Stop bribing our men. As at today, all our men had collected their salaries. We have zero tolerance for bribery in our commission and whoever engages in such act will be send back home. Report whoever demands for bribe to our office and we shall take action.”
Speaking on the effects of over-speeding on the roads, Boboye urged motorists to drive carefully as we are approaching the end of the year, adding that over-speeding contributes 55 percent to the crashes on the road.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State command has deployed 1,000 officers of the corps to all routes within the state during the yuletide season.
The Oyo State sector Commander of FRSC, Mrs Cecilia Alao, said this in Ibadan during the Oyo State FRSC 2017 mega rally and flag off for ember months campaign.
The theme of the programme according to her was “Right to Life on the Highway not Negotiable.”
The sector commander said that the corps is looking towards a situation where there would be zero crashes during festive periods. (Daily Trust)
