Police in Lagos are on a manhunt for popular musician, Damini Ogiulu alias Burna Boy, for his alleged involvement in the attack on David Abiye alias 2Kay.

Abiye was attacked by four armed men inside his room 847, at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island on October 22.

Abiye was a guest artist at a big show at Eko Hotel organised by Buchwyld Network Limited which featured many other artists.

During the attack the suspect made away with 2Kay’s property worth over N13 million.

Lagos State Commissioner Imohimi Edgal said investigations conducted and confessions from some of the suspects arrested showed that Burna Boy contracted them to teach 2Kay a lesson.

The Lagos Police boss said the singer, was beaten and tied up by the armed men, who allegedly made away with the victim’s Audemais Piquet (AP), automatic gold wristwatch worth $25,000, gold jewelries valued N1.5 million, mobile phones, Adidas shoe, cash and perfumes to the thieves who posed as hotel workers.

Edgal, said during investigation a lady identified as Mutajero Nimota, girlfriend to one of the assailants, was arrested.

He said that her confessions led to the arrest of Balogun Ademola, 23, Obinna Igwe, 20 and Omotore Tunmise, 27.

He said Ademola and Igwe were students of the University of Lagos, while Tunmise, according to the police is an artisan.

He said: “The gang confessed that one Damini Ogiulu a.k.a Burna Boy, an artist, through his road manager, Joel Kantiock, contacted and paid them to rob the said Abiye David Jumbo a.k.a 2Kay according to them to teach the victim a lesson.

“The said Joel Kantiock was picked up in his hideout at Zaria, Kaduna State. He confessed that his boss Damini Ogiulu a.k.a Burna Boy, an artist instructed him to look for armed men that can rob Abiye to teach him a lesson.

“He mobilised the gang with an initial cash sum of N50,000 and a subsequent N50,000 when the job was completed.”

Edgal said that he was using the medium to advise Damini Ogiulu a.k.a Burna Boy to report himself at the nearest police station since all efforts to locate him at his residence 7, Cheview Estate, Lekki, or known hangouts have proved abortive.

“This command will not tolerate gangterism in any form.”

But Kantiock denied knowing any of the suspects, insisting that he was arrested because he was the closest person to Burna Boy, who was at the event. (Daily Trust)
