The war against kidnapping in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, recorded a breakthrough today when the state Police Command nabbed another top kidnapping kingpin.

The man, who is now cooling his heels in police net, was captured following a tip-off, News Express learnt.

“When his mansion was searched in Ihiala, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was unearthed,” said Uche Ezechukwu, Coordinator of the League of Anambra Media Professionals.

A top-level source told News Express that the police recovered over 20 AK47 and rocket launchers from the captured kingpin’s house, in addition to several rounds of ammunition.

In keeping with the practice in Anambra, the man’s house where the arms and ammunition were discovered is expected to be demolished tomorrow.

News Express recalls that Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sept. 5 supervised the demolition of a two-storey building belonging to a suspected kidnap kingpin, Olisa Ifejika, at the suspect’s home town, Ifite Oraifite, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

Ifejika stands accused of masterminding high-profile kidnappings in the state, among them the abduction of two traditional rulers, Igwe Robert Eze of Ukpo and Igwe Jerome Udechukwu of Ihembosi community.

The demolition of Ifejika’s house in keeping with the newly introduced policy of the Obi administration has been widely commended, including by Ohanaeze in Diaspora and the South-East zonal leadership of the Campaign for Democracy.

Obi will likely supervise the demolition of the house of the kingpin whose cup became full today.
