Senate President Bukola Saraki
The Senate has assured that it would begin the consideration of the general principles of the 2018 budget proposal next week.
Making the announcement, at the commencement of Thursday’s plenary, Senate President Bukola Saraki, called on his colleagues who intend to make contributions to write their names.
He said the debate would commence on Wednesday, November 22, and end on Thursday, November 23. After the debate, while the budget would be committed to the Senate committee on Appropriation, chaired by Senator Danjuma Goje.
Speaking shortly after the plenary, Senate Spokesperson, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, who represents Niger North, gave other details on consideration of the general principles of the 2018 fiscal estimates.
President Muhammadu Buhari had recently presented to the joint session of the National Assembly the 2018 Budget proposal to the tune of N8.612 trillion, an increase of 16 percent above the 2017 Budget.
The 2018 Budget proposal is the third one to be debated by the 8th Senate after its inauguration in June, 9 2015.
