At least six persons lost their lives in separate major accidents today in Lagos. While three died in a road crash, the others perished in a train mishap.

The road accident happened at the popular Kara Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which happened in the early hours of the day, also left a number of people injured.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident occurred after a diesel tanker ram into a stationary truck.

Elsewhere in Lagos, another three persons were reported dead at Abbatoir area of Agege when a train derailed this morning.

Lagos State Police Spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole who confirmed the incident noted that the train rammed into a trailer, injuring many and leaving three of the victims feared dead.

“We just got the information. Our policemen and those attached to the railway command are in control of the situation,” Famous-Cole said.

“We shall be able to furnish you with details later please.”

It was gathered that around 8.am at the abattoir, Oko-Oba Agege, a truck that had just dropped some caws was trying to make a detour when it rammed into a moving train.

An eyewitness, Ismail Daburam, said: “At about 7 am, a trailer driven by one Hamza had just finished offloading caw and was making a detour when it mistakenly rammed into a moving train. The driver and the conductor of the truck were injured.

Five persons hanging on the top of the train fell off the train and died instantly, while several others were injured.

“Immediately, the accident occurred, the train continued with its journey. The train was coming from Ogun State with many passengers and some illegal passengers ha hi g on the roof. It was the passengers on the roof that fell off.

“Policemen from Abattoir and other relevant agencies were contacted who stormed the scene and took the injured to the hospital and evacuated the dead.”

Lagos state Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed that the train rammed into a trailer, killing three persons while many were injured.

The trailer has been taken to the police station by a combined team of policemen, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and other relevant agencies.
