Obama finishes off Romney in final US Presidential Debate

Folks, it’s all over, and this time there’s no debate about it: US President Barack Obama has gotten back his groove, whipping main challenger Mitt Romney for the second time in a week in the US Presidential Debate.

While Governor Romney of the Republican Party won the first debate on Oct. 3, Obama bounced back powerfully last week Wednesday, Oct. 17, and then finished off his archrival this morning (Nigerian Time) with a spectacular performance in the third and final debate.

Scoring the candidates in the debate which focused on foreign policy and the military, respondents in a CNN Poll gave Democrat Obama 48% and Romney 40%. But the margin of victory was wider in a CBS News Instant Poll, which scored Obama 53% and Romney 23%.

As happened last week after the second debate, Nigerians at home and abroad are celebrating Obama’s performance in this morning’s debate.

Stone Emmanuel, a political analyst based in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, told News Express that Obama won because “Romney tends to be more aggressive and hasty in his judgement.” He described the debate as being “very vital to the sustainability of democracy,” noting that the “US has shown that they are truly the cradle of democracy and I am hoping to see how we can do this in our country Nigeria.”

Several Nigerians have taken to the social networks to celebrate the outcome of the debate, which is expected to influence the fate of the candidates in the November 6 ballot.

Dr. Ifeoma T. Amobi, a Mass Communications lecturer at the University of Lagos, tweeted: “Obama’s ‘Horses & Bayonets’ buried Romney’s arguments.”

To broadcaster Kemi Adetiba, “Romney came, endorsed Obama and left,” as she tweeted.

Giving her impression on Facebook, Funmi Macaulay, a Nigerian based in the US, wrote: “Obama does it again tonight. Romney has simply shown that all he understands is ‘balancing company accounts’ and not national leadership. Obama has effectively returned him back to Bain Capital with a clear warning – Go back to your business and stop shipping US jobs to China.”

A computer-manipulated image uploaded on Facebook minutes ago by Olumide Ayoola vividly captures the feelings of Nigerians. It shows America’s first Black President in the paraphernalia of a hiphop star, flashing a double victory sign with the words #2 TERMZ boldly inscribed on his T-Shirt. So has Obama already won a second term?
