Delta Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Kingsley Emu
The National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria (NCCN) has announced the launch of Nigeria’s first Sub National Competitiveness Index, rating Delta State the highest in human capital development out of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Briefing journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu, stated that Delta State has performed very well in human capital development for the two years of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.
He disclosed that Delta dropped a little to five in infrastructure, adding that Okowa has done very well and spent a lot of money in road construction, electricity, airport among others.
The state was also, rated 23 in economy due to crisis in the creeks by the Niger Delta Avengers. Emu added that 60 percent income was lost in the contributions to the Nigerian economy as stated by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo
In institutions, Delta State was also rated seventh. Emu disclosed that Delta State has done well in security and anti-corruption. He added that N835 million has been disbursed through the Micro Credit Scheme to engage youths in the state.
He observed that unengaged youths are a threat to the society and for that reason, Delta State government has focused on rehabilitating technical and vocational institutions in the state, and has embarked on job creation to empower youths.
