Four beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have graduated from the Linton University College, Malaysia with First Class Honours.
Delegates that made First Class are Agbainfo Yerin (Civil Engineering), Ariri Otegha Joseph (Civil Engineering), Briggs Alaye Frank (Computer Science) and Tamunosaki Awolayeofori (Civil Engineering).
A total of 36 delegates from the Amnesty programme graduated from the university. Eight other delegates made Second Class Upper Division; with 18 Second Class Lower Division and one Third Class Division.
Linton is an affiliate of Leeds Beckett, Coventry and University of East London, both in the United Kingdom (UK).
Following the outstanding performance of the delegates, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (Rtd), again stressed the relevance of higher education to peace and development.
Represented by the Senior Reintegration Officer of the Amnesty office, Mr. Jude Gbaboyor, at the 13th Convocation Ceremony of Linton University College, on Tuesday (October 31, 2017), Gen. Boroh reiterated the commitment of the Buhari administration to the sustainability of peace and stability of the Niger Delta region.
He pointed out that the Amnesty Office is focusing on capacity development of the youths, particularly the ex-agitators, as part of concerted efforts towards reintegrating them back to their original communities with sustainable sources of livelihood through various empowerment packages.
Mr. Bralatei Pastor, a delegate, who spoke on behalf his colleagues, thanked President Buhari for sustaining the programme, even as he applauded Gen. Boroh for his pragmatic empowerment initiatives for beneficiaries of the programme, saying that they would reciprocate the federal government’s good gesture by being good ambassadors of the programme.
