Thrills as ‘Omoye’ premiers in Lagos

The Nigerian film industry is growing and is beginning to address societal issues while aiming to entertain. This is the case of ‘Omoye’, a movie on domestic violence, which premiered on Sunday at the Genesis Deluxe Cinema, Palms Shopping Mall, Lekki, Lagos.

Powered by Natures Gentle Touch, the premier was lit with stars from across the entertainment industry who dazzled on the red carpet. Notable among them are; Ufoma McDermott, Kiki Omeili, Stan Nze, Jide Awobona amongst others.

Starring Kiki Omeili, Tina Mba, Stan Nze, Rotimi Salami, Greg Ojefua and other talented actors, ‘Omoye’ tells a compelling story of a hardworking and relentless young lady who unknowingly gets into a toxic relationship with a man that never takes responsibility for anything. With abuse and violence increasing, she becomes emotionally and mentally drained but still won’t give up on her marriage.

The film also highlights the role that members of the society; family & friends, religious organisations, governmental bodies and non-governmental organisations should play in curbing the menace of domestic violence.

Speaking on the Company’s sponsorship of the movie, Brand Manager, Natures Gentle Touch, Anita Anosike stated: “Natures Gentle Touch is very passionate about empowering women and helping them to build their confidence. We see the Omoye project as a vehicle through which we can give a voice to the woman who is suffering any form of domestic abuse; enlighten her on the need to speak up and seek help, thereby helping her to regain her confidence”

On his part, director of the movie, Uche Chukwu expressed optimism that the movie will cause a change in mindset “This movie is about bringing attention and more awareness to the issue of domestic violence. Our goal is to educate people, enlighten them and cause a change in the society and we’re very positive that this movie will achieve that.”

Kiki played the role of Omoye who suffered domestic abuse from her partner, Rotimi, but who in a bid to save face and protect her family from stigma, covered up for him and put up with the abuse.

Omoye will hit cinema screens across Nigeria from October 27, 2017.
