First Lady back from the dead . . . and back home to us!

After many sleepless nights, President Goodluck Jonathan will most likely have a sound sleep tonight. His wife, Dame Patience, who had been in Germany since early August, finally returned home this afternoon. The Nigerian First Lady was all smiles as she disembarked from the presidential jet that brought her home around 3:45 p.m. She waved heartily to the crowd that gathered to welcome her back before slipping into the arms of a relieved President Jonathan, who broke into an expansive smile as he hugged the First Lady.

A report by SaharaReporters said Dame Jonathan was welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by officials of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP), some female ministers, women groups and as well as party faithful bussed to the airport for the purpose.

News Express had picked up signals of the First Lady’s imminent returned early in the day, among them the dispatching of a presidential jet to Germany last night and the laying of a red carpet at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. There were also banners by Dame Jonathan’s supporters, one of which read: “WE MISSED YOU Mummy.”

News Express had published several stories on the First Lady’s mysterious sickness, which The Presidency tried in vain to shield from the public, claiming that she travelled out to rest.

As we reported on Oct. 8, the First Lady had been in and out of coma since she was flown to Germany following a tummy tuck operation that developed complications. She was reportedly talked into doing tummy tuck by close friends and apparently went for it without the consent of her husband.

“After the surgery, which was successful, the doctors advised her to stay back in the hospital so that they can monitor what she eats and drinks till she was fully healed. But she went against advice, came back to Nigeria and began to eat diet not within prescribed limits. The operation therefore went awry and she was flown out at night in an air ambulance. She has been in and out of coma ever since and, according to those who know, the chances of her surviving and getting back to Nigeria as a normal person is becoming slimmer,” one of our sources had disclosed.

This, according to the sources, explains Mr. President’s failure to hasten to visit the wife weeks after her admission at the Horst Schmidt Klinik, Wiesbaden, Germany where late Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua once received treatment.

Until today, Dame Jonathan had not been seen in public since late July. Her spokespersons and those of her husband claimed that she was resting abroad, but this has since been exposed as an unintelligent lie. She has been speculated to be suffering from food poisoning, fibroid and uterine cancer but the tummy tuck theory appears to be the most plausible since she looked healthy before her suddenly disappearance from public view. Fashionable but of plus size, the First Lady is known for her desire to look trendy, which may have informed her decision to go for tummy tuck, a procedure which cost Stella Obasanjo her life during her days as First Lady.
