Shine your eyes before you fall in love!

Falling in love and getting married is globally recognised as one of the most crucial decisions anyone could make. For youths, the challenge is even bigger since they have limited experience about life.

In the circumstances, young people need to be extra careful – or “shine their eyes” as Nigerians would put it – before deciding whom to fall in love with and marry.

This was the theme explored by a thrilling drama entitled “What is True Love?” which drew a massive audience at the Ota Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14.

The drama, an hour and 15 minutes in length climaxed a third in a series of the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses holding at Ota. It was watched by 7,051 people.

The principal character in the drama was Omolara, who comes from a Christian home but disregarded Bible principles and married Samson, who did not share her beliefs. The marriage eventually runs into crisis due to incompatibility. However, just when divorce seems imminent, Omolara saves the marriage by heeding the wise counsel of a happily married Christian friend who encourages her to apply Bible principles in her marriage instead of acting belligerently.

Directed by Akinladejo Festus, the drama was based on Proverbs 22:3 (which advises on the need to think things over before acting) and 1 John 4;8, which emphasises that God is love, meaning that his requirements for mankind are borne out of love.

Like the one of the previous week, last weekend’s convention was held in Yoruba, one of Nigeria’s major languages. News Express however reliably learnt that this week’s session will be in English. A convention is scheduled to hold almost every weekend at the same venue until to December 7, 2012. Throughout Nigeria 250 conventions are scheduled in 32 cities – many of them in indigenous Nigerian languages.

The convention series described as a “heart examination” begins at 9:20 a.m. all three days and admission is free.
