The Anambra State chapter of Action Democratic Party (ADP) haselectedIfeanyichukwu Okonkwo as its flag bearer for theNovember 18governorship election in the state.

Speaking at the event,Dr. James Okoroma,National Secretary of ADP, who doubled as the returning officer of the primary election, said Okonkwo polled a total of 1,062 votes out of 1,072 votes.

Presenting the party flag to Okonkwo in Awka, Okoroma said the governorship candidate was elected by direct voting conducted in the three senatorial zones that make up the state, adding that the exercise was peaceful.

He said: “Having satisfied all the constitutional requirements of ADP, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo is hereby declared winner and the candidate for theNovember 18governorship election in Anambra State.”

Okoroma noted that the race to take over the state government had commenced with the emergence of Okonkwo as the party’s governorship candidate.

In his words: “With the outcome of the party primary, ADP is the party to beat in any election. We call for support from the electorates to realise the dreams of forming the next government in the state.”

In his acceptance speech Okonkwo, who is also a social activist, promised to sustain the fight against corruption in Nigeria if elected as the governor.

While promising to concentrate his government crusade on security, law and order, anti corruption and impunity if elected, Okonkwo stressed that the state could not afford "to return to Egypt."

He also said that his administration would tackle problems in the education sector by increasing its budget and payment of grants to assist infrastructure development in schools, invest in human capital development as well as development of sports and sporting infrastructure in every local government.

He said: “The ADP government promises Anambra people that there will be no secret vote for the governor; no selling of community land assets; and to run an all inclusive government.”
