Philanthropist Chief Emma Nweke Chinemelu Awka
Founder Esther Nweke Charity and Educational Foundation, Chief Emma Nweke, on Tuesday sensitised members of the Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria riders in Anambra on the need to use their voters card wisely and shun being used as objects of destruction during the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.
Addressing members of the union led by its state Secretary, Sunday Asoanya, during the distribution of 1,000 free helmets to the okada riders at the Esther Nweke Charity and Educational Foundation, Nweke urged them to vote in the right person during the election.
He appealed to them to resist any attempt from any quarters to use them as cannon fodders but to use their voters’ cards wisely to vote the candidate of their choice for good governance and true leadership to be experienced in the state.
Nweke, an engineer, advised the commercial motorcyclists not to yield to any form of intimidation or molestation to vote any candidate who is not their choice because they are stakeholders in the state by virtue of living and doing business in the state.
He said the helmets is to assist protect their lives should there be any crash even as he prayed against crashes adding that it would be periodic as those who would not get today would get their next time it would be distributed.
The philanthropist assured the okada riders that he would have more robust time with them in future even as he thanked them for honouring his invitation for the free helmet distribution.
Engineer Nweke used the opportunity to thank God for the safe return of President Buhari to Nigeria and for granting his better health.
Earlier, Coordinator of the Esther Nweke Charity and Educational Foundation, Mr Emeka Okwa, said the foundation powered by Engr. Nweke is into philanthropy through charity giving and support to education through scholarship and other aids.
Okwa recalled that the foundation through Chinemelu Awka – as Engr Nweke is called – has been in the charity and scholarship business for years and recently that okada riders got free motorcycles hence he decided to give 1,000 free to motorcycle riders to protect their lives.
He said each zone in Nigeria was represented equally in the distribution of free helmets as Engr. Nweke remained a detribalised person in his dealings.
Responding after receiving free helmets, Osondu Emmanuel from Ebonyi, Donald Mokwe from Kogi, Sunday Ayima also from Kogi, Ezekiel Jonah from Taraba and ThankGod Jaja from Benue State thanked Engr. Nweke. They prayed for God’s protection and love at all times while assuring they would use the helmet for the purpose it was meant.
The Secretary of the Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria in Anambra State, Sunday Asoanya, while thanking Engr Nweke recalled he has being donating things at no cost to the union especially when he donated free motorcycles to its members recently. He said the advice he gave them on Anambra election is taking seriously and would be adhered to.
