The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 5:45 p.m., following an argument between the suspect, a barber working at Moonlight Hotel, Rafin Sanyi, and the deceased.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the suspect allegedly stabbed Shago in the neck with a knife during the disagreement.

It said the victim, a resident of Karnaya town, was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Following the incident, some youths reportedly gathered at the scene and attempted to vandalise the hotel.
However, police operatives from the Dutse Division promptly intervened and brought the situation under control, preventing further violence and damage to property.
The police said the suspect was currently in custody, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
