Nigerian Diaspora leader Alistair Soyode
Nigeria is indeed a lucky nation in this dispensation as her democratic strength continues to be treated and tested.
Alistair Soyode, the Mentoring Commandant of Nigerians in Diaspora Mentoring Corp, stated this on Saturday as President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja from his medical trip to London.
The Nigerian President had been in the United Kingdom attending to his health on medical ground for about 103 days.
Though President Buhari’s ailment has not been declared publicly, the President’s return to Nigeria has been received with jubilation from all quarters.
Soyede said: “Let’s look at the situation the President faces battling with serious health related issue. Nigeria as a nation is getting better democratically bearing in mind the different opinions that have been expressed since the president’s medical treatment abroad.”
On question of the president’s fitness to continue in office, Soyode, who is known to have good knowledge of government institutions in Nigeria, said: “Let’s wait and see. There is going to be a shock in Nigeria. What people read and see as earthquake is going to hit Nigeria with the President’s return. Remember, he’s a former military Head of State even though the president mentioned he is now the one taking orders; that’s in London and from his Doctor only and not in Nigeria. Anything can happen.”
Soyede, who spoke in London where he is one of the leading Diaspora entrepreneurs, said: “Our people who have been seeking remedies to various issues will not expect anything less than powerful and noticeable changes in the system and governance of the country.”
It is his view of Buhari’s “arrival back in the country without any doubt will impact positively on the electorate, economy and galvanise the reinforcement of agencies, parastatals and the security apparatus in the country. It should also be noted for posterity that the Vice President, Professor Osinbajo, did a wonderful job holding the nation together and Nigerians are the winners.”
