The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday declared its readiness for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, saying that the commission would provide a level playing ground for all the candidates and political parties.
At a stakeholders’ meeting on ward levels voters’ registration exercise in Awka, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Nwachukwu Orji gave assurance of a transparent, free, fair and credible election in the state.
While noting that 79,700 eligible voters had been registered during the first phase of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise, Orji said that the number had skyrocketed to 2,042,548 between July 24 and 28, 2017.
Orji also said that the commission had approved the devolution of the voters’ registration exercise to the ward level to ensure all eligible persons in the state get registered before the election proper.
According to the INEC boss, the ward registration exercise would start on Thursday August 10, and end on August 15, adding that INEC would be at the designated centres in all the 326 wards in the state.
He further said that the training of prospective registration officials had commenced duty at all local government area headquarters in the state to guarantee the successful conduct of the exercise.
