Emergency workers evacuating remains after a suicide bomb attack in Borno
Suicide bombers have attacked the General Hospital in Molai, a community on the outskirts of Maiduguri in Borno State.
The suicide bombers, however, failed to gain entry into the hospital before detonating their explosives.
According to the police, a female suicide bomber first attacked a joint security guard location in the general area of the community around 11:22 p.m. on Thursday.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, DSP. Victor Isuku, Victor Ishuku, said she detonated the improvised explosive device strapped to her body near the security guard location killing herself alone.
The police said hours later, around 5:15 a.m., two more suicide bombers targeted the Molai General Hospital and tried to gain entry into the temporary settlement area for rehabilitated leprosy patients.
“They were prevented by the persistent barking and attacks from dogs in the area. In the process, they hurriedly detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Police EOD teams were promptly drafted to scenes, to sanitise and render the area and its surrounding safe.”
Ishuku added that normalcy has since been restored. (Channels TV)
