Governor Okowa
Delta State Government has taken a step in reducing flooding, which recently devastated parts of the state including Asaba, Warri, Ughelli and other towns and communities.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, stated this during a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held in Asaba.
According to Ukah, the Governor of the State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, was very much concerned about the effects of the flood on the people of the state.
He further stated that it would not be possible for now to quantify the extent of damage done to properties, including Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, because the relevant agencies are still taking stock.
Also on Camp 74 Asaba, the Commissioner made it clear that work on that area and other areas affected by the flood will receive due attention as soon as the rains eases off.
The Commissioner, who was accompanied by his Works counterpart, Hon. Chief James Augoye, further appealed to Deltans to be safety conscious by staying off flood prone areas while the government is putting measures in place to stem the tide.
He revealed that in fulfillment of the Governor’s electioneering campaign promises, the State Executive Council approved the construction of Trans Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Bridges and Access Roads (completion of 12.8 km main alignment), the award of contract for the construction of Idheze bypass to Okpe-Isoko, Isoko South Local Government Area to Rossurd Construction Limited, and the award of the rehabilitation of Aviara/Okpame Road and construction of Okpare/Okpawa Road in Isoko South Local Government Area.
Also approved are the repudiation of contract for the construction of 132 KV DC, Delta State Grid Transmission line from Afiesere to Ozoro, and the withdrawal of the appointment of Chief Ikpahwo Uroroke as Regent of Okpolo Enwhe and appointment of Chief Ayeghemese Otidi as Regent (Oba) Elect of Okpolo Enwhe Kingdom in Isoko South Local Government Area.
