Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway blocked

If you are a motorist needing to go to Lagos from Abeokuta or Sango Ota or anywhere in that axis, you need to either shelve your trip or look for an alternative route.

This is because the road is blocked, with traffic at a standstill due to on-going repair of the road by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

A News Express correspondent who just passed through the opposite lane of the road reports that motorists are forced to divert into the Lagos – Abeokuta lane at some point, thus causing a massive hold-up on the Abeokuta – Lagos lane.

“Traffic is now at a standstill due to repair work going on at the Abule Egba stretch of the road but a combined team of policemen and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) are battling to restore sanity. The standstill has stretched down to Ijokoro and may soon reach the old Sango Ota toll gate,” our correspondent said.

Some of the motorists were overheard complaining loudly, asking why the repairs should be undertaken during the peak morning hours.

News Express reports that large portions of the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway, which leads to the residence and farm of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, have become death traps.

“Some parts of the road, including both lanes in the Sango Bridge and old toll gate stretch have become almost impassable,” our correspondent said.
