Igbo Nollywood film festival holds August in Awka

Nollywood stakeholders of Igbo extraction who are concerned with the struggle for the revival of Igbo language movie industry will host the sixth Nollywood Igbo Festival of Arts and Culture (a.k.a Igbo Premier Film Festival) in Anambra State.

The ace film maker and founder, Nollywood Igbo Film Forum, Ogbuefi Comr. Harris Chuma, said in a statement issued in Awka that the 2-day event was to re-awaken interest in Igbo language and the film making in it. He said the festival, with the theme “Our Culture, Our Treasure; Imperatives For The Positive Projection Of Igbo Language And Culture” would hold from August 25 to August 27 at Maybond Hotels, Unizik Junction, Awka, Anambra State.

“The Sixth edition of Nollywood Igbo Festival of Arts & Culture shares industry techniques one can use to sell, investors, exhibitors, distributors, home video suppliers, wholesalers, retailers & the buying public.

“Attitudes and approaches to finding investment through limited partnerships, innovative distribution, equity investments, banking issues, split-right deals, debt equity deals and foreign pre-sales are to be discussed.”

The film forum said that the festival, otherwise called Ndigbo in Nollywood Cultural week, will host high profile awards, screened recently restored archive Igbo films, championed new discoveries and combined curatorial strength with red carpet glamour and street carnival/new yam festival.

The statement also provided an extensive programme of industry events, public fora, lectures, master classes and question and answer session with film makers and film talents.

“The high point of the festival will be the official endorsement and solidarity on Gov. Obiano’s re-election for second tenure. Also, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano will be officially honoured with the prestigious award titled ‘Ndigbo Nollywood Best Friendly Governor’ the release stated.

It added that it would attract dozens of local, national and international reporters and broadcasting organisations, delegates from the Nigerian film corporation and from the National Institute for Cultural Orientation. Also expected are delegates from U.S. Consulate-General, delegates from Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, delegates from Government’s ministries, Department and agencies.
