An unnamed teenage boy, purportedly under the influence of hard drugs, slit the throat of his father, mother and three sisters with a knife yesterday in Maiduguri, Borno State
Barrister Ona Ogilegwu, Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command, disclosed this at Emmanual Baptist Church in Ilorin.
Though Ogilegwu did not say why the boy executed the dastardly act, he made the disclosure during the 2017 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held in the church.
The Kwara anti-narcotic boss spoke on the theme: “Listening First To Children And Youth Is The First Step To Help Them Grow Healthy And Safe”.
Ogilegwu, who was redeployed from Borno to Kwara State in April this year, said it was worrisome to see the negative effect and damage drug abuse is causing to the society.
He noted that such evil that wiped out five family members could have been averted if the addict was encouraged to stop using hard drugs.
Ogilegwu explained that the event is in compliance with the United Nations International Day, which is usually marked on June 26, every year to campaign against drug abuse and illegal drug business.
Earlier, officials of the agency briefed journalists on the up-coming event and held rallies at selected locations in Ilorin, Kwara State, where security personnel in the state participated.
Officials of the agency last week Friday stormed various mosques and on Sunday various churches campaigning on the dangers of drug abuse and how parents and guardians could help their children or wards involved in drug abuse.
