The litigant, Jezie Ekejiuba
The Special 3-Man Appeal Panel of Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on Thursday reserved for judgment the appeal filed by a human rights lawyer, Mr Jezie Ekejiuba, against the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, the State House of Assembly and Attorney General of Anambra State, seeking for perpetual injunction against the use of appointed Local Government Transition Committees to run the affairs of the 21 local government areas of the state.
The suit was brought pursuant to Section 1(2) and 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution. Justice H.O. Ozoh of the High Court of Justice, Awka had earlier dismissed the suit for lack of merit. Not satisfied by the judgment of the lower court, Mr Ekejiuba headed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the verdict.
When the Appeal marked CA/E/437/2012 came up for hearing at the Court of Appeal, Enugu, yesterday, Ekejiuba, who appeared for himself, adopted his Brief of Argument.
Mrs Okonkwo Okom, Senior State Counsel from the Attorney General’s Chambers, adopted their own Brief of Argument while Mrs T.O. Igwegbe, who appeared for the House of Assembly, adopted their own Brief. After the adoption of Briefs of Argument by all the Counsels for the parties, Hon. Justice C.N. Uwa who led other members of the Panel, Hon. Justice H.A. Barka and Hon. Justice B.M. Ugo reserved the Appeal for judgment without a date.
