Bauchi CP Garba Baba Umar
The Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested a total of six suspects involved in heinous crimes including four members of a syndicate behind series of extra judicial killings in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Garba Baba Umar, said his Command relied on actionable intelligence to effect the arrests as part of its efforts to further stem the tide of all forms of crime and criminality in the state.
The CP recalled that during his last stakeholders meeting with various Myetti Allah groups in the state, he enjoined them to disclose the identities of the groups allegedly behind series of extra judicial killings of suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers in the state but they vehemently denied knowledge of such syndicates.
He disclosed that “The groups usually take laws into their hand; go to villages in their hundreds and abduct their victims to unknown destination and kill them extra judicially on mere allegations. When the situation continued unabated, the command set up a special team with the sole mandate to unravel the syndicate behind these dastardly acts with a view to bringing them to justice.
“However, on 26/5/2017 at about 0600hrs, following painstaking surveillance operations, the Command Anti Kidnapping Unit smashed a syndicate either known as BABELI and GAMA KAI and arrested the suspects at Runde Mountain Bauchi. He gave the names of the suspects as
Adamu Abubakar, male, aged 52 years (Gang leader), Muhammad Lawan, male, aged 52 years, Ahmadu Gambo, male, aged 38 years and Mohammed Tukur, male, aged 50 years, all of Galambi Ward of Bauchi State.
The Police further disclosed that two fabricated guns were recovered from the suspects. “Meanwhile, one Musa Umaru, male, aged 38 years of Barnawa village Bauchi whom they abducted with the intent to kill extra-judiciously was also rescued. Preliminary investigation revealed that the same gang abducted and killed one Tambaya Jauro and one Ahmadu Musa at Miya District of Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State on 11/05/2017.”
The Police Command in a statement issued on Thursday, stated that following intelligence report, it also arrested one Mahmud Abdullahi, male, aged 18 years, and one Abdullahi Mohammed, male, aged 19 years both of Bauchi town.
The suspects were said to have kidnapped a 16 years old girl of Nasarawa Ward who was on her way to school, took her to their hideout behind a mountain at GRA Bauchi and had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim against her will.
“Meanwhile, the victim was rescued and taken to the ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for medical examination where penetration was confirmed.
The Police team recovered one Tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with Reg. No. DAS 440 that was used in perpetrating the crime. The suspects would be charged to Court after diligent investigation.
“I want to assure the good people of Bauchi State that the Command under my watch will do everything possible to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties of all citizens and residents of the state,” the Commissioner said.
