Counter-terrorism expert Temitope Olodo
A Nigerian counter-terrorism expert based in the United Kingdom has proposed the adoption of a new strategy to tackle Islamist extremism in the UK.
“We need a different innovative Preventive measure to deconstruct and avert the wave of radical Islamist with a sole objective of causing terror tsunami in the United Kingdom,” Temitope Olodo, a Preventive Terrorism Consultant and Strategist, said in a statement sent by e-mail to News Express.
“With 90% of terrorist incidents in mainland Britain from 7th of July 2005 to date clearly linked to radicalised Diasporas; it is high time the UK security infrastructure accommodate the new wave of thinking about ‘Diaspora Radicalisation’,” he said.
Continuing, Mr. Olodo, an aspirant in the June 2017 general election in Britain, said: “The narrative for Diaspora radicalisation is different and the motivation (or drivers) needs to be clearly understood; to guarantee that the methodology adopted to tackle extremism and the process for deconstruction is effective.
“From Michael Adebolajo to Muhaydin Mire, from Khalid Mashood to Salman Abedi; they all have one thing in common; they represent a new wave of 2nd to 3rd generation of migrant parents who are settled persons in the UK.
“So far, majority of the prevented attacks and convictions relate to BRITISH Asians whilst successful attacks are linked to BRITISH Africans. Majority of OSCT Prevent funding needs to be reviewed to address this new wave, if extremism is to be eradicated with earlier immigration intervention.”
