The University of Ibadan Centre for Sustainable Development (CESDEV), the African Sustainable Development Network (ASUDNET) and the Nigeria Sustainable Development Solutions Network (NSDSN) have announced the call for papers for the 8th Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit (ISDS) scheduled to hold from21-25 August, 2017at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan and the CESDEV Suite, 20, Awolowo Avenue, Old Bodija, Ibadan, Nigeria.
A statement issued in Ibadan by the Centre for Sustainable Development, signed by the Registrar O.I. Olukoya, indicated that the theme of the Summit is ‘Challenges and Prospects of Attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Planetary Boundaries’. Sub-Themes include Clean Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure; Climate Change and Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services; Ending Poverty and Narrowing Inequality; Health, water and Sanitation; Inclusive Economic Growth, Prosperity and Sustainable Businesses; Innovative Science and Technology; Environmental limits to Human development; Politics and Governance (including Communications Conflicts and Partnership); Quality Education, Job Skills and Decent Work; Sustainable Land Use and Rural Development; Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements; Tourism and Sustainable Development.
The Summit aims at investigating and understanding how Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be achieved within the planetary boundaries. The summit shall engage key stakeholders in discourse to x-ray development process, bearing in mind the myriad of challenges that developing countries face.
The organisers called on anyone willing to present papers at the summit to submit an extended abstract (2-4 pages) which must be detailed enough to enable the session organisers to judge the merits of the paper. It should include a description of the topic to be studied, theoretical focus, research methods and findings.
