Governor Umahi
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has sacked the 64 coordinators and 512 management committee members of the 64 development centres appointed at the inception of his administration. He also dissolved the caretaker committee chairmen of all the 13 local government areas of the state.
Umahi, who made the announcement at the Abakaliki Township Stadium during the Democracy Day celebration, said the dissolution of the caretaker chairmen was necessary to pave way for the swearing-in of the newly elected council chairmen in the April 22 council polls. The governor said the dissolved development centres would be reconstituted in the months ahead. He also announced the appointment of 46 technical assistants, 11 senior assistants, five senior special assistants and seven board members of Ebonyi Fertilisers Blending Plant. The newly elected LG chairmen as well as other new appointees were sworn-in at the venue of the celebration by the governor, who also directed that the 171 councillors must be sworn-in today (Tuesday). The governor charged the appointees to key into the government’s policies and programmmes as it was no longer business as usual. He noted that apart from the numerous achievements of his administration which were visible all over the state, he was planning massive industrialisation of the state in the months ahead, adding that as part of his covenant with God, his administration had budgeted N3billion for the construction of an ecumenical centre where Ebonyians would always run to God in prayers in times of need.
