The Magistrate Court II sitting in Dutse, Jigawa state has remanded the state party chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Jigawa, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda Ku’it and five other ex- commissioners in prison custody over allegations of criminal conspiracy and three other count charges.

The presiding magistrate, Usman Muhammed Lamin also adjourned the sitting till May 23, 2017 for ruling over their bail application submitted by counsel.

The party chairman along with five other commissioners and ALGON officials who were dragged before the magistrate court pleaded not guilty of all the charges.

The five other detained ex-government officials include Salisu Saleh Indirawa and Nasiru Umar Roni, former commissioners of local government, Shehu Umar Chamo and Mukhtar Ibrahim Gonga ALGON Chairmen and Abba Mohd Daguro, ALGON scribe.

The charges read to the six accused were contained in the First Information Report (FIR), are criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of breach of trust by servants, disobeying the direction of the law with intent to cause public injury and theft contrary to section 97, 312, 123(A) and 287 of the final code.

Having denied all the charges, the counsel to the accuse person, Yakubu Abdullahi Rubah applied for the bail of the accused persons, saying that all the charges were bailable.

Yakubu Abdullahi Rubah, said the accused persons were invited by the Jigawa state police, and they honored the invitation and reported as requested, saying with time the truth of the matter on the alleged financial recklessness on the former governor’s aides will be known.

The prosecution counsel, Musa Imam objected the bail application saying that the accused persons were public figures who have large sympatisers, as their release may be a security threat to the state and people in the state considering the charges in the FIR.

The presiding magistrate, Usman Muhammed Lamin, adjoined the case to 23rd May to rule on the bail application.

Magistrate Lamin said, “The both parties submitted their reasons for and against the bail supported by so many sections of the law. I hereby adjoining the case till 23rd for ruling. The accuse persons shall be remanded in prison.” (Peoples Daily)
