The Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, has sworn to an affidavit to affirm the allegation of attempt to bribe the Presiding Judge, Justice S.M. Owodunni of the Ipokia High Court Division with the sum of N13 million to pervert the course of justice by the defendants through its counsel in a chieftaincy case.

The case with the Suit No: HCL/31/2016 is between Prince Emmanuel Olabimtan & ors and Chief Oke Adeyeye in respect of Ihunbo Chieftaincy declaration of 1956 where order of rotation were spelt out. The activist said the defendants’ action was contrary to the law of the land as stipulated in section 15(5) of the amended 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and sections 98 & 99 of the criminal code law of the federation.

In the 13-paragraph affidavit dated May 10, 2017 deposed to, before an Ikeja High Court, Lagos State, Sulaiman maintained that he had the directive of his human rights organisation, CHRSJ to depose to the affidavit, declaring that he acted in consonance with the request of the Ogun State Chief Judge through his Judicial Assistant Officer (JAO), Mr. Timilehin Tayo in a letter dated Tuesday 25th April, 2017 with Ref No: CJ/C.1/Vol.VII/54 which was received on Thursday 4th May, 2017 in respect of our earlier petition dated 20th April, 2017.

According to Adeniyi, the sworn affidavit with cover letter, was sent to the Ogun State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, CON, as requested.

In a copy of the affidavit, which was made available to newsmen on Monday, Adeniyi disclosed that the human rights organisation acted in accordance with section 15 sub-section 5 and section 24 sub-section (e) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
