Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he will soon leave music to focus on making billions.

The singer made the remark while responding to a post by Nigerian rapper Erigga on X, where the rapper praised musicians who built their careers without financial support from wealthy families.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.

Davido disagreed with the sentiment, arguing that musicians from wealthy families could also work hard to achieve success.

“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” he responded.

The singer subsequently described Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and called the rapper an “imbecile.”

Davido then declared that he would soon step away from music to pursue his financial ambitions.

“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he wrote.

He ended the exchange by questioning whether people genuinely desire a life of poverty.

“Deep down, who like poverty?” Davido asked.

The comments sparked a discussion around wealth, privilege and the effort required to succeed in the music industry, with Davido using his response to argue that coming from a wealthy background does not automatically eliminate the need to work hard. (Arise News)
