Suspended SGF Babachir Lawal
A North-East Christian Group known as Voice of the Northern Christian Movement of Nigeria (VNCMN) says any Christian group that has come out in the public media to challenge the accusations against the suspended Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal, may not be truly representing the interest of all the Christians in Nigeria.
Regarding the issue of uneven appointment, the Christian group said: “Many ignorant people have been accusingPresident Muhammadu Buhari of the problem that is somehow traceable to the suspended SGF.”
Kallamu Dikwa, Executive Director of VNCMN while addressing a press conferenceon Tuesdayin Kaduna, said the SGF was given the powers to appoint both the boards and parastatals and ratified by the National Assembly, but has failed to consider many Christians.
He lamented: “From the SGF office to the Vice President’s office down to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), it is pitiable how employment is still being manipulated and corruptly diverted to only sometimes the unmerited limited few.”
Dikwa, a Reverend, said Nigerians should thank Mr. President for his forthrightness in exposing and recovering some of the nation’s money from looters.
He said as a Christian, he believed anybody that commits a crime, needs to be punished, whether as Christian, Muslim or Traditional Worshipper.
He said although the case is subject to evidence-based ratification by a court of competent jurisdiction to determine the fate of the suspended SGFs, but in his own opinion, based on handy facts, the suspended SGF has committed the crime levelled against him and should face the legal consequences.
He said as the Voice of the Northern Christian Movement of Nigeria, they will continue to support the fight against corruption and also tell Mr. President the truth whenever the need arises.
The director said VNCMN is not a supporter of any financial misdemeanour and corrupt practices hiding under any religion and therefore appealed to President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress-led government to reprimand any act of corruption among his cabinet members like the one of suspended SGF.
“Our prayer is that, in replacement, the Voice of Northern Christian Movement of Nigeria would appreciate an offer to provide a candidate who will fairly and faithfully represent the entire Christian community and country at large.
“Whenever there is discrimination against the Christian communities, please we request Mr. President to kindly wade into the situation for mutual beneficial-existence,” he added.
