Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has enjoined Christians to serve God with love and humility. He gave the charge today at Ubiaja, Edo State, at the commissioning of an ultra-modern social centre of the St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Governor Uduaghan, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Utuama SAN, said that as believers in God, Christians must exhibit a higher love for God than anything else. He said that to get the best out of life, man must learn to love God and serve him in humility.
“As Christians, it is our duty to manifest love, serve God in love and humility and love our neighbors. Nobody trades with God and loses. If you go into partnership with God you are a winner any day. So, let us be fervent in doing the works of God,” Uduaghan advised.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Francis Omolumen, thanked the governor for identifying with Ubiaja, his maternal home. Rev. Omolumen described the governor as a “worthy son” who never forgot his roots. And as a mark of honour and appreciation of his contribution to the completion of the project, the largest hall in the social centre, was named the Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan Hall.
However, like Oliver Twist, the Parish Priest presented a list of other needs in the church and pleaded for further assistance, which Prof. Utuama promised to convey to Governor Uduaghan. He also assured the priest and parishioners that as a friend of St Benedict and a staunch Catholic, he would be willing to also assist the parish.
Soon after the official commissioning of the social centre, Prof. Utuama laid the foundation for the renovation of the Fathers’ House in the parish.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion included Hon. Johnson Ejiro, Deputy Majority Leader, Delta State House of Assembly; Olorogun Kenneth Okpara, Commissioner for Finance, Delta State; Mrs. Mary Nelson; Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner, Project Monitoring; Dr. Festus Okubor; Rev. Godspower Agbuduta, Senior Special Adviser on Religious Affairs; Sir Jude Sinibe, Special Adviser on Local Government Affairs; Dr. (Mrs.) Rukevwe Ugwumba, Special Adviser on Health Monitoring; and Chief John Oguma, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
