Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Utuama, yesterday night bagged the Delta State National Union of Journalists (NUJ) award at the end of a four-day Press Week in Asaba, the state capital.
Utuama was honoured with the Delta NUJ Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to good governance, peace, social and political development of Delta State.
Presenting the award, the Delta NUJ chairman, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, said the nation would be better for it if more intellectual and successful professionals in the mould of Prof. Utuama join in the process of providing quality leadership for the people.
Commissioner for Information, Barr. Chike Ogeah, who represented Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, described the awardee as a meticulous and thorough administrator. He recalled the days when he was a student of Prof Utuama at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, saying it was not a thing that started just yesterday.
In his response, Utuama thanked the NUJ, saying he was excited by the honour and assured that the award would spur him on to always do his best for the state and Deltans.
Three other persons were also honoured by the NUJ, among them Hon. Raymond Edijala, the Transition Committee Chairman Uduaghan Local Government, who bagged the Distinguished Service Award for contributions to Local Government Administration and Rural Development in the state. The others are Mrs. Victoria Sillo Fregene, President and Founder of Destiny Helpers International, and Mr. Francis Eyituoyor-Maku.
