The ‎Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Professor Stephen Ocheni and Alhaji Suleiman Hassan to fill the vacant ministerial positions in the Federal Executive Council.

President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated both men to replace the late Minister of State for Labour, James Ocholi, and ex-Minister of the Environment, Amina Mohammed, who left the cabinet to become the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.

The Senate gave the approval on Wednesday after screening the nominees at the National Assembly.

‎During the screening, Prof. Ocheni spoke on his sterling public service records as a Former Permanent Secretary and Former Accountant General of Kogi State.

When ‎asked what advice he would give to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) towards taking Nigeria out of recession and how he would use his accounting knowledge to uncover embezzlement and corruption and alleviate poverty, Prof. Ocheni said: “IGR and economic diversification should be emphasised.”
