Presentation of prizes at the 2016 Rising Star Writing Competition Awards
The organisers of Rising Star Writing Competition & Awards, earlier scheduled to close on May 20, 2017, have extended to June 23, 2017. According to Coordinator of the competition and Chief Executive Officer of The Writers Corner, Uche Udoji (Mrs.), this is to allow for more entries and afford more children the opportunity to enter for the competition.
Rising Star Writing Competition & Awards, an annual children creative writing competition, have announced the take-off of the second edition of the competition. Entries opened on March 1, 2017. The maiden edition of the competition and awards was a huge success with children from schools across the country winning various prizes – Television sets, laptop computers, UPS, books among others. The competition which is organised by The Writers Corner in collaboration with Vuvuzela Communications Limited is to help develop children’s creative thinking and writing skills. The competition is open to Nigerian children aged six – eleven (Primary) to twelve – seventeen (Secondary) whether resident in Nigeria or abroad. Non-Nigerian Children resident in Nigeria are also eligible.
The writing can be either a poem or a short story exploring the theme “The Beauty of Nature”. The word limit for a short story is 600 and 250 for a poem. Winning entries shall be published in Rising Star Creative Writing Annual (an Anthology of Children Creative Writing).
Winners in each category shall receive the following prizes
First Place Winners – A TV set, Certificate of Award, books, special appearance at the Rising Star Writing Awards Ceremony and a chance to have the award-winning entry published in Rising Star Creative Writing Annual. Second Place Winners shall get Tablet Computers, Certificate of Award, books, special appearance at the Rising Star Writing Awards Ceremony and a chance to have the award-winning entry published. Third Place Winners shall receive Android phones, Certificate of Award, books, special appearance at the Rising Star Writing Awards Ceremony and chance to have the award-winning entries published while each of the Honourable Mention Winners shall go home with a UPS, Certificate of Award, books, special appearance at the Rising Star Writing Awards Ceremony and a chance to have the award-winning entry published too.
According to Uche Udoji (Mrs.) the second edition of the competition, has been made possible by Greenlife Pharmaceuticals, Blue Gate (Tripplesea Group) and Bank of Industry.

The child’s entry should also be mailed to us via the same email address before the closing date, June 23, 2017.
