The release, last Friday of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, after meeting his tough bail conditions is not the end of the struggle, a prominent Igbo leader has said.

Eminent lawyer, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, President emeritus of Igbo think tank Aka Ikenga, toldNews Expressthat Kanu’s release from prison custody “is a welcome development” and commended “all those who stood up to be counted in the crucial moment.”

He, however, added: “I still believe that this is a political trial and that the oppressors will never give up their unjust and devilish persecution. Vigilance is the watchword.”

Kanu, who was detained for 18 months on account of his separatist campaign, had previously been granted bail which was not honoured by the Nigerian Government.
