Intrigues in Imo: Popular activist Citizen Ikenna Samuelson resigns, vows to expose corrupt people in high places

Popular social crusader Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha today resigned his appointment as the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly.

His resignation came following intrigues at the Office of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu. Ikenna in an e-mail sent to News Express declared that the battle-line had become drawn and that vowed to expose corrupt persons in the Speaker’s Office even at the risk of his life.

Citizen Ikenna Samuelson had weeks ago threatened to expose political appointees who instead of doing their job, embraced corrupt practices, thereby distorting the good programmes and policies of the State Government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

He had earlier written Speaker Uwajumogu on November 7, alleging corrupt practices by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Kodichi Anamekwe. The letter was copied the Clerk of the House and members of the Assembly. Most of the lawmakers pleaded with Samuelson to sheath his sword but he insisted: “My nature as a social crusader will not allow me to keep quiet when things are going wrong in my socio-political environment. As a reservoir of information, I cannot betray the confidence I have in myself.”

Ikenna was queried by the Speaker’s Office on December 13 (exactly 36 days after). In a nine-page response which he addressed to the Speaker and copied the Chief of Staff, Special Adviser on Administration and the Speaker’s Sister, Dr. (Mrs.) Chidinma Uwajumogu, Citizen Samuelson requested the Speaker to set up at least a four-man panel/committee made up of only legislators who must invite him (Samuelson) officially to appear before them and in the presence of pressmen to prove his allegation of corruption and fraud against the Chief of Staff. He also maintained that he must prove his allegations while still as a Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties.

“Speaker Uwajumogu having failed to set up the panel, Samuelson sensing danger, came to the conclusion that it would be better for him to resign and then fight on, thereby beating them to the plot to suspend him again,” Ikenna.

He vowed “to give full details of corrupt practices going on in the Office of the Speaker to the Glory of Almighty God without any fear.”
