Veteran broadcaster and entertainment mogul Kenny Ogungbe has finally left broadcast giants DAAR Communications Plc, where he was General Manager in charge of Radio Services (RayPower FM and Faaji FM), to run his own radio station, Kennis FM.
Mr. Ogungbe, who is popularly known as Baba Keke, was sent forth by the DAAR family on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, and resumed fully at Kennis FM, Lagos, the next day. The country’s newest radio station, which broadcasts on 104.1 frequency, had been running test transmission for weeks.
Baba Keke, who doubles as boss of Primetime Entertainment and Kennis Music, was full of gratitude to DAAR Founder/Pioneer Chairman, High Chief Alegho Raymond Dokpesi, and incumbent Chairman, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr. He disclosed at the send-forth ceremony that it was Dokpesi Snr. Who helped him to secure the radio licence while Dokpesi Jnr. helped the station to begin operations. He expressed gratitude to them and to Almighty God for making his dream of owning a radio station come true.
“It is still the same family; only that I will be operating from a different office,” Mr. Ogungbe, who has been succeeded by Dr. Ambrose Somide, said. “I will still be running my (RayPower) programmes,” he added.
Baba Keke first announced the realisation of the Kennis FM dream on September 8, 2016, when he posted a picture of the name on his Instagram page, captioning it: “It’s Brand New. Kennis 104 FM. To God be the glory.”
Mr. Ogungbe was a pioneer staff of RayPower, the radio station that pioneered 24 hours broadcasting in Nigeria.
