Two-time African Footballer of the Year and former Captain of the Super Eagles, Nwankwo Kanu, will be the star attraction at the finals of the 27th CBN All Financial Institutions Football Competition taking place at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, today, November 30, 2013.
Kanu, a UNICEF Ambassador and fondly called Papilo by football fans, is expected to be in the stands, as special guest of the CBN Governor, Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to watch CBN FC and Union Bank FC trade tackles for the coveted trophy.
“Kanu’s attendance will be viewed by many as the perfect finale to a competition that has for over two decades engendered camaraderie amongst financial institutions across Nigeria,” a source close to the organisers said.
“It is expected that the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, will be filled to capacity, as admission to the competition, which is held in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is free,” the source added.
