Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is back at work just a day after expert medical advice to rest for few days. Dr. Jonathan travelled to London on Wednesday for the on-going meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council but fell sick yesterday – the opening day.
Late yesterday, Jonathan’s Special Adviser (Media & Publicity), Dr. Reuben Abati, released a statement saying that “he has been advised to rest for a few days” after he “became indisposed and could not be present at the opening of the meeting today.”
However, the same Abati late this morning tweeted: “President Jonathan recovers from indisposition, he is presiding over the HIIC meeting in London right now. Will deliver his address shortly.”
Abati also tweeted the photo accompanying this story, with the caption: “President Jonathan & Baroness Chalker at the Honourary International Investors Council Meeting in London today.”
Delighted Nigerians have expressed relief over the President’s swift recovery. Tolu Ogunlesi tweeted: “Good to see Mr. President back on his feet. Prayers answered! Welcome back to the beat Mr. President.”
“Glad to see our President back to his feet. Love u Mr President and α nice job,” tweeted Mike Moses Okaba, while Fidelis Mbah tweeted: “Good to see Mr. President back on his feet” but wondered: “Was it right for Mr President to ignore medical advice to rest?”
