Africa’s five representatives for next year’s World Cup in Brazil have finally emerged. News Express scored 100 per cent in its prediction published on Saturday which boldly proclaimed: “Nigeria, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Cameroon favoured to emerge Africa’s Brazil 2014 World Cup reps”.
It was prophecy come true as Algeria few minutes ago picked the last ticket after beating visiting Burkina Faso by a lone goal to leave overall scores at 3-3, progressing on account of away goal rule.
Less than two hours earlier, Ghana confirmed their ticket with a 7-3 aggregate win over Egypt – their 1-2 loss in Cairo not counting for much due to the comfortable 6-1 win in last month’s first leg in Kumasi.
Cameroon had on Sunday taken Africa’s third ticket after thrashing visiting Tunisia 4-1 in the in Yaounde – the first leg having ended goalless.
Rewind to last Saturday when Nigeria became the first African team to qualify after beating visiting Ethiopia 2-0 for a comfortable 4-1 aggregate victory.
Later that evening, Ivory Coast also sailed through after surviving a nervous finish to draw 1-1 with Senegal for a 4-2 aggregate win.
