History was made this evening when Ajegunle emerged champions in the football in the first ever Lagos Community Games that pitched 10 communities against each other in Nigeria’s economic hub.
Powered by Olympic Milk from the stable of Nutricima, the games styled after the Olympic Games, featured Oshodi, Agege, Ajegunle, Ketu, Obalende, Bariga, Surulere, Ikorodu, Mushin, Orile-Iganmu.
In the final game decided a few minutes ago at Agege Stadium, AJ City as Ajegunle is called defeated Agege 3-2.
Keen followers of the competition were not surprised by the outcome since Ajegunle is known for producing football stars such as ex-internationals Samson Siasia and Victor Ikpeba.
The games kicked off September 10. News Express reports that after eight days of action, only four communities, namely Bariga, Kosofe, Ajegunle and Agege, were left in the race on Wednesday to fight the grand prize. They were do battle in the three games of football, draught and table tennis following the failure of Surulere, Ikorodu, Obalende, Orile Iganmu, Ketu and Mushin to go beyond the preliminaries of the games intended to foster community spirit.
