Armed policemen block protesting youths at venue of Northern Governors’ meeting

As the 19 Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) meeting with traditional rulers entered day two on Tuesday in Kaduna, armed policemen blocked protesting youths from entering Government House, venue of the meeting.

The protesters with placards are accusing the governors of frivolity and expensive lifestyle, abandoning key responsibilities on their shoulders, resulting in the present deplorable situation of the region.

The youths staged the peaceful protest from UTC Bus stop and headed to Government House to express their dismay to the governors over the difficult situation the people of the region find themselves due to low performance and lack of fulfilled campaign promises by the governors.

The protesting youths were however, blocked by police from proceeding to Government House.

Leader of the protesters under the aegis of Northern Youth Council, said enough is enough and the people of the region are tired of series of Northern Governors Forum meetings which yield no positive result to the people of their various states.

Isah Abubakar, one of the protesters, called on the governors to stop deceiving themselves and face the reality to provide key factories that will provide job for the teaming unemployed youths and improve on the deplorable economy of the region.

"The Governors continued with their meeting and might not be aware of our plight,” he said.

The meeting is still ongoing at the time of filling this report and communique is expected to be issued at the end of the meeting.

Police spokesperson ASP Aliyu Usman while confirming the protest, said there is no arrest.
